Love our Books? Share them with others in your community!
Indians are now the third largest Asian immigrant group in the United States and growing in other areas of the world as well. This is a critical time to expose the rich Indian culture to the children within our local communities. As the world shrinks, children need fun yet educational books to understand the heritage of those around them.
The only way this will happen with success is if every one of us does our part. We ask that you consider taking a couple of hours a month (or more if you can) to lead a story time or other craft project in your local community. Contact your local librarian to get started. Ask them if you can read a story in either Hindi or English that focuses on Indian culture once a month. We haven’t had a library turn anyone away yet! Libraries also love to have special events for Diwali. We’ve received numerous emails from parents/teachers who have used the MM Diwali book to host a reading and craft time at their library or children’s school.
Contact your local Indian association and as to be part of their next cultural event or fair. You can read a story, you can sing nursery rhymes, or you can take it a step further and have children act out the stories. The level of what you do is up to you. Our request is that if everyone starts getting both their local Indian community and community at large involved and aware that books in Indian languages as well as English books focusing on Indian themes are important.
So let’s work together to help carve a prominent place for quality children’s literature that creates curiosity and sparks dialog about Indian language and culture for children of Indian origin and beyond. Email us for more suggestions or questions.
Host a MM Fundraiser
